It doesn’t matter if you have done the last of fall lawn jobs, you still have to prepare for the winter by winterizing your mower. Winterizing your mower is an efficient way and will help you in the long run. If you do that correctly you can avoid paying a lot of money for repairs with possibility to extend your mowers time to last some years.

For your consideration, here is set of easy to follow instructions on how to winterize your mower.  So you can use your mower with no problem when springtime comes.

One thing you don’t want to see is lingering gas that can block your carburetor or else it would result in paying decent sum for repair. You simply need to drain the gas tank. Before you store it for winter, switch it on and keep it running until no gas is left in the tank. Once engine shuts off, restart it again if lawn mower doesn’t start, you successfully drain the gas tank.

Another key point of winterizing your lawn mower is oil. After fall you always have to get rid of the old oil straight away and change it with new one. If you have an opportunity, find gas stations in your region that keeps old oil for correct waste removal.

Simply clean the plastic one or obtain replacement for paper one.

Don’t forget to take the sparkling plug out. First thing you need to do is pour some greasy oil through it. Switch engine on an off few times so it will spread oil properly.  Put the plug back in. You need to be aware if your plug is old or you worked with mower for hundred hours, best bet is to buy a new sparkling plug.

Cleaning part is very important, to take care of undersurfaces.  Some outside materials might be stuck between cutters, scrape them off to avoid cutters from rusting. Try to go through all sides of mower with some soap and warm water to remove greasy stuff. Allow lawn mower to dry off before storing it. Wear gloves to avoid any injuries.

You can store mower almost anywhere, but it has to be inside. Basement or garage will work fine or wherever you feel it will be secure.  And blanket it with plastic, place some mothballs close to lawn mower, so no foreigners like mice and rats will set up a base in it.  If you set this all up and put this information to good use, you will have no problem with your mower when spring season starts. Properly winterizing a lawn mower pretty much guarantees you piece of mind.
